They Conquered the Castle 2021

Runners from across the East Midlands literally Conquered the Castle this week by completing as many laps as they could of Rockingham Castle in our first live event back since the outbreak of the pandemic within six hours.

The 5 km circuit of the castle was completed by 136 runners throughout the day with both Mark Patton and Melanie Wiffin completing 10 laps and totalling 50 km in the solo category and being the first male and female in their categories.

There were also team entries with Ian’s Team being the first team of 3 to conquer the castle and No Payne, No Gain being the first team of 4 – both of whom completed an impressive 70 km throughout the day.

The first pair to Conquer the Castle were Lions Toffee who also completed 14 laps and achieved 70 km between them.

Local businesses also supported the event with headline sponsor NFU Mutual Market Harborough also present on the day to kick off the event along with the Northampton Grocer, The Lewis Foundation helping with the runner’s baggage, Shire Sounds Radio providing entertainment, Makira covering any medical requirements on the day and Simply Sicily and Sammys providing refreshments. Each participant also received a medal kindly sponsored by GPW Consulting to commemorate their conquering of the castle.

Event Organiser Kerry Bate said “It was a fantastic day which was well supported and congratulations to everyone who took part. Thank you also to the sponsors NFU Mutual Market Harborough, GPW Consulting and Northampton Grocer, The Lewis Foundation, Simply Sicily, Shire Sounds Radio, Sammys and Makira for their support.”
